We are only second generation of sewers. My Mother and Aunt sewed, but not the Grandmother I knew (she cooked), but I heard tales of the Grandmother I never knew, did sew. She passed away when my Mother was 4. So is it in the DNA…..don’t know, but what I do know is there was power in the needle. Growing up, there was always creativity going on in the house. Making things, was just common place....

My husband is sporting a Kente print tie to match back to my gown. If I weren’t home sick this week, we’d probably wear the same to the opening of “Black Panther!”...
My Aunt Nona's little Geoffrey Beene gold beaded dress is now on display at the Museum of the City of New York. The exhibition is Mod New York, Fashion Takes a Trip.....and you can bop and bounce through the exhibit listening to the sound track of the time. The exhibit features designers Geoffrey Beene, Ruby Bailey, Pauline Trigére, and more.

Lois made the bag she is wearing with a canvas on the cover that she purchased in Cuba, one of many trips around the world. Lois in her Jacket and dress by.....ME! Years ago, my friend Lois, brought back this fabric, this blue indigo fabric from the Sea Islands. It was originally a bedspread. Her request was a that it be made into a dress. She reminded me it was at least 15 or more years ago. Fast forward December 2016, at an event we were both vending at, she loved the patchwork denim jacket her daughter purchased.
